Nannies, wet nurses, seamstresses, cooks, laundresses, ironers, kitchen helpers, housekeepers, maids. In the homes of the oligarchic families of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, many women –adolescents and girls– lived and worked whose lives were completely tied and subordinated to the needs of their employers. Their religious practices, their emotional life, their intimate needs and their affective bonds took place in the intimate space of those whom they served. This sound and vocal piece works with archives of classified ads and historical documents that give an account of a memory of bodies and a history of care that we are still writing.

The script was made possible thanks to the contributions of researchers Julia Broguet, Lali Corvalan, Manuela Rodriguez and Patricia Nobilia.

We kind support of Archivo General de la Nación Argentina, the Museo de Arte Español Enrique Larreta, Buenos Aires and Mondriaan Fonds, The Netherlands.

El ala interior [The Inner Wing] was part of Bienal de Performance, Buenos Aires on February 25 and March 18, 2022
